Types of special purpose lathe machines

Screw cutting lathe (Automatic):

Screw cutting lathe machine is operated through the cam plates and cams. These screw cutting used for mass production of screwed parts. It is especially suitable for precision screw work.

Production lathe:

Production lathe process is used to increases the rate production of such times. Its special designs make it suitable for mass production. The production lathe process is not suitable for repair works.

It is distinguishes itself by it bed which is made inclined towards the rear for ensuring an efficient ship removal.

Vertical lathe:

Vertical lathe machine carries a vertical column on which are fitted the cross slide and vertical slide. Vertical lathe is having a heavy base at the bottom carries a face plate to hold the job.

The vertical lathe is used for turning and very large and heavy rotating parts which cannot be otherwise supported on other types of lathes.

Vertical lathe machines are specifically employed for jobs are like large blanks and heavy duty flywheels.

Frontal lathe:

Frontal lathe machines are specifically used in machining short jobs. In this machine two carriages are provided one on each end. In addition two tool heads are provided and this enables machining of two operations simultaneously.

Facing lathe:

Facing lathe machine is used to machine end faces of bulky cylindrical   jobs. In this machine of carriage is driven by a separate motor, drives the carriage, independent of the main spindle, and carries no tail stock.

Precision lathe:

Precision lathe machine is plays a vital role in the workshop. It is used for precision turning of previously rough turned work pieces. It provides capable of giving a dimensional accuracy up to 0.002 mm.
