How to Understanding the System of Units

The System of units are mainly used for the measurements of the objects. The System of units are representing different ways which are accordingly to the objects condition.

System of UnitsThe System of units are mainly divided into two categories

  • Fundamental Units
  • Derived units

Fundamental Units

The fundamental units are commonly used for the measurements. Which are divided mainly 4 types they are.

  1. C.G.S System
  2. M.K.S System
  3. F.P.S System
  4. S.I Units

C.G.S System

C.G.S Systems in which ‘C’ stands for centimeter. ‘G’ stands for gram and ‘S’ stands for seconds. The C.G.S system is which deals with only three fundamental quantities are mass, length and time.

M.K.S System

M.K.S Systems in which ‘M’ stands for meter , ‘K’ stands for kilogram and ‘S’ stands for second. In M.K.S system the basic units are mass,time and length are kilogram, seconds and meter are respectively.

F.P.S System

The basic units of F.P.S system is mass,time and length are kilogram , second and meter respectively. The F.P.S system ‘F’ stands for ‘foot’, ‘P’ stands for pound and ‘S’ stands for second.

S.I Units

S.I units of system is in fact improved and extended version of M.K.S. system of units. The S.I units are following seven fundamentals they are.

  • Seconds
  • Kilogram
  • Meter
  • Ampere
  • Kelvin 
  • Candela
  • Mole

In addition to above mentioned seven fundamentals units, there are following two supplementary units. 

  1. Radian (rad)
  2. Steradian (sr)
